Resources
Coursework:
This is a rigorous course with a significant lecture and laboratory component characteristic of any college science course. Instruction consists mostly of lectures, experiments, discussions, demonstrations, and written assignments—including research projects, in-class assignments, and homework. Approximately one period per week is devoted to hands-on laboratory experiences or fieldwork. All labs require a written analysis. Student progress and mastery of course content will be measured through written exams, quizzes on assigned readings and other course material, homework, laboratory experiments and field investigations, laboratory reports, oral presentations on selected topics and class participation. Topics for this course are outlined on the College Board's® Advanced Placement Program® website and may also be viewed on my website. AP Environmental is a laboratory and field-based course and as such fieldtrips are required. If a student is unable to attend a fieldtrip a make-up assignment of equal rigor will be provided.
Procedures:
By definition, an Advanced Placement course is a college-level course and is intended for students who wish to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. However, as we are still in high schooldiscipline and dress code rules still apply. You are expected to be in class everyday, on time, and prepared to work. I do not accept late work so please check the classroom board and the website for assignments and due dates. If you are absent on a laboratory day you may not be able to make up the lab or receive only partial credit for the remainder of the lab. The AP Exam will take place the 2nd Tuesday in May. In addition you are expected to have a binder, a calculator, writing utensils, paper and your textbook. You will also be required to bring in lab supplies when necessary. You will also need to have internet access and an email address.
