About Our Class
I have had the pleasure of teaching here at McArthur High School since the fall of 2002. Prior to teaching here, I have done research in the fields of Biology and Ecology. The science courses I am teaching are designed to give students an introduction to many different disciplines of science.Throughout the year, we will spend time discussing current events in science and technology, and building reading and writing skills specifically for science class.
APES is designed to be the equivalent of an introductory college course in Environmental Science. The goal of this course is to provide students with the scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies to understand the interrelationships of the natural world, to identify and analyze environmental problems both natural and human-made, and to evaluate the risks associated with these problems and examine alternative solutions for resolving and/or preventing them. This course promotes environmental literacy so that you are better prepared to make decisions regarding issues that impact the environment and society. Additionally, this course will help establish and build a sense of stewardship for the environment in every student, illustrating throughout the course that one person can make a difference. The course encompasses human population dynamics, interrelationships in nature, energy flow, resources, environmental quality, human impact on environmental systems, and environmental law. Students who pass the A.P. exam with a score of 3, 4, or 5 qualify to receive college credit.
If you ever have questions about the class, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to working with you. I can be reached by email or phone; however, due to the hectic nature of the school day, I may not be able to return your voice mail or email the same day. I will do my best to follow up quickly.
